BMJ Case Reports

BMJ Case Reports is an award winning journal that delivers a focused, peer-reviewed, valuable collection of cases in all disciplines. You can access it with your OpenAthens, You can get a code from the library if you want to submit a case report, it is FREE.

BMJ Onexamination Codes

We can provide onexamination codes for Trainee doctors  if you are preparing for postgraduate exams, please contact us for details

BNF / BNF for Children

The new BNF & BNFC App is now available, giving you access to practical, evidence-based medicines information wherever you are. You can access BNF online.

The Library Catalogue includes all the print and eBooks books available.You can search the library book stock/eBooks and also search for staff publications.

You can request a search to answer your clinical questions. We conduct a quick search and send you the results same day.

Clinicalskill.net

clinicalskills.net is the online educational resource which support training and best practice in clinical skills. Access is available either by a link on the intranet, or via OpenAthens.

Colouring Books

We have a  colouring books and colouring pencils in our Health & Wellbeing Zone, you can use them to relax and de-stress, this is part of Well-Being @ Work initiative.

Computers

The Library has number of PC’s (some available 24-hours) with Internet access and Microsoft Office. Printing facilities are available 24 hours.

We can provide overview of the critical appraisal process and critical appraisal techniques to groups, facilitate Critical Appraisal- Qualitative and Quantitative. Contact us for the training dates.

We run drop in sessions for training, literature search assistance, journal access etc.

DynaMed 

Library has subscription to DynaMed, a clinical reference tool. Staff can access this tool without any password on the Trust networked computers. Find more information

The Library provides access to number of e-books. To access these you must login to your OpenAthens

eLearning Zone

We have dedicated eLearning Zone with 5 PCs available for staff 24 hours, to complete their statutory/Mandatory training. Links to free eLearning courses are available on the library website for your CPD.

Enquiries

We answer enquiries related to your information needs in person or over the phone or via email.

EvidenceSearch4U

We can carry out searches on your behalf, and have two levels of search available, a Clinical Question Answering Service, and a Literature Search service.

Exam collections

The library stock covers revision and exam preparation books for undergraduate medical students, and postgraduate medical courses (such as MRCP, MRCS, MRCPCH etc.).

Group study Room

We have a small group study room for group work and collaboration. You can use this room for Maximum 2 hours at a time. Due to social distancing it is now limited to 2 people only.

Health Information Library signposts good quality health information, links to healthy living and local support group information. 

Health Literacy

Health literacy is about people having enough knowledge, understanding, skills and confidence to use health information. Library provide health literacy awareness training, contact us to book a course.

Health and Wellbeing Zone

We have health & Wellbeing Zone in the 24 hour section of the library. The zone contains comfy chairs for staff to relax, read wellbeing books( includes mindfulness stress management, healthy eating), a dedicated PC for listening relaxation/meditation audio cd’s and viewing health and wellbeing audio visual material and related websites. You can borrow wellbeing books over night or week end. We also keep Puzzles/jigsaws, colouring books and pencils for staff to use them to relax and de-stress as part of Well-Being @ Work initiative.

Institutional Research Repository

We have created an Institutional Research Repository of staff publications with the aim of preserving and archiving Trust staff research and to showcase Trust research outputs. We have created pubmed links to articles and full text links with author’s permission and in compliance with publisher’s open access policies.

Jigsaws

We have jigsaw/puzzles in the Health & Wellbeing Zone to help you relax and de-stress, so feel free to pop in and do a bit of jigsaw.

Joining the library

You can join the library if you are employed by the Trust. Trust ID/proof of employment will be required. Library joining forms are available at the counter.

If you/your department are part of a Journal Club or considering starting the Journal Club, Library can provide support

You can access both print and online journals. To access online journals you need login to OpenAthens.  Search or browse journals via BrowZine. If you don’t have OpenAthens account you can register online.

Knowledgeshare

KnowledgeShare provide personalized email alerts which includes latest articles, policy documents, websites, guidance and books on topics of your interest.

Literature searches

We can conduct searches for you for work related reading and patient care, we can identify journal articles, guidelines, systematic reviews and other material to help meet your requirements. If your search is for coursework, we will ask you to do the search yourself but we are happy to offer training on how to search.

Out of Hours access

Access to one section of the library is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to eligible library members. Use your Trust ID badge to access. If you are a new staff to Trust contact library for 24 hour library access.

We have created a website for Health Information  to help patients to access good quality information and local support group information quickly & easily . We also compiled a list of WMUH patient information leaflets.

Photocopying

Photocopier is available in the 24 hour section, use your Trust ID badge to collect your printouts, your department get charged for the photocopying.

Posters

If you have submitted/presented a poster in a conference, please send the details to us, we can add them to the Institutional repository of staff publications, you can send pdf of your poster, we can upload it on to the repository. please contact us for more details.

Printing

There is a networked printer in the 24 hour section, use your Trust ID badge to collect your printouts (printer name is CHELWEST_MONO on cwmps00/03). Your department get charged for the printing.

Quiet Study Room

A small study room for quiet study is available during library opening hours. Contact us to use this room.

Renewing your books

You can renew your books by email or phone, Tel: 0208321 5968. Email: chelwest.library.infoservice@nhs.net

You can renew the books 6 times, after 6th renewal you need to bring them in to borrow again you can borrow if no-one else has reserved them.

The Library Research Hub  has details of publications as well as resources to support research. We can also create Staff research profiles.

Returning your books

Books can be returned during library opening hours. There is a book returns box outside the library, you can drop the books in the box when we are closed. BUCKS students can return their books at the library counter or drop their BUCKS books in the BUCKS Book returns box in the library, the courier will collect the books every fortnight.

Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures

We have print copies in the library, we also have online access via OpenAthens. Trust Staff can access without password on the Trust intranet.

Scanning

There is a scanner available in the 24 hour section, use your Trust ID badge to scan items.

Sepsis

Staff Publications

We compile WMUH and CWMH staff publications, more information can be found on our Research Hub. If your publication is not available on our repository you can submit the details for inclusion.

Study Room

A small study room for quiet study or small group study is available for library users during library opening hours. Library users can use this room for few hours at a time, this room is not for hot desking/meetings/interviews/online training. please contact us for more details.

Training and Assistance

We provide training in information skills, and this can be a 1-1 or group, it can be at your workplace or in the library

World’s largest medical image library, covers 40,000+ images,covers general medicine and other specialties. Access with OpenAthens login.

WiFi

There is NHS open wifi (see the intranet guide) available in the library. Trust devices automatically connect to WMUH Wifi, for students Eduroam is available (for students with participating institutions).

Christmas Opening Hours

The Library will be closed from 25th Dec 2025– 1ST Jan 2026.Please note that swipe card access to the 24 hour section of the library will continue to be available at all times.

Changes to the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub

 The NHS Knowledge and Library Hub (KLhub) is getting a fresh look from July 7 with a new and improved user interface. You will benefit from the improved search functionality with it remaining the single-best platform to browse, search and access eResources using your NHS OpenAthens account.

The new KLHub means that there are some changes that you should be aware of ahead of time.  From July any existing search alerts, custom folders and journal alerts which have been saved in MyEBSCO will no longer be available. This will affect items saved in the KLHub as well as EBSCOhost databases. Please contact library staff if you need advice on saving your searches in order to replicate them later. 

ProQuest Databases

 From July 1st the following ProQuest databases will no longer be available via NHS OpenAthens:

  • AMED, British Nursing Index (BNI), Health Research Premium Collection, PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding these changes, please contact library staff.
