Book Collection

The Library book stock aims to reflect the interests of all readers. You can browse or search the library online catalogue for books, eBooks, staff publications.

If we don’t hold a book you are interested in our stock, you can request it. Request a Book

The Library welcomes suggestions for new books to be purchased.  Please note that this recommendations may need to be put forward to the Library Committee for approval.

Borrowing: Most books can be borrowed by registered members. The loan period is 7, 14 and 28 days.

*Please note: Borrowed books not returned to the library are the responsibility of the borrower. Failure to return borrowed item will result in the borrower being charged for a replacement copy. The user accepts this responsibility before borrowing and agrees to pay for replacement fee should an item be lost.

Renewing:  Books can be renewed either in person, by telephone or email, provided that they have not been reserved by another reader. There is a limit on number of renewals.

Reservations: To reserve a book currently on loan please ask at the library counter. 

* Please note in order to borrow books a refundable deposit of £20 is required if you are a nursing student or a fixed term staff on a contract of less than one year. Please ask library staff for more details.

Audio-Visual

The library audio-visual collection contains of videos, DVD and CD-ROM’s . DVDs and videos can be viewed in the library or  borrowed on an overnight loan basis.

Later this year, the West Middlesex Hospital Library will be relocating to a smaller space within the Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre (DTEC). As a result of this move, the library will be selling a large portion of its book stock.

Library Relocation: Print journal holdings available for free

 The Westmid Library will move to the new Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre (DTEC) building later this year. Because the new space is much smaller, we will be disposing of our print journal collection. Before that happens, we invite staff, teams, and departments to take any individual journals or entire sets from our holdings free of charge. For a complete list of available journals, please contact us. You are also welcome to visit the library in the Education Centre to browse our print collection. We are open Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Health & Wellbeing Collection

Our wellbeing collection has a range of self-help and mood-boosting-books for library members to borrow. Books includes:

  • Mindfulness
  • Stress and Anxiety Management
  • Emotional Resilience
  • Meditation
  • Yoga, Pilates & Tai Chi
  • Healthy Eating

We also have a range of resources to help staff to relax and stay healthy, including on-going jigsaw puzzles, colouring books and colouring pencils to help staff to relax and de-stress, so feel free to pop in and do a bit of jigsaw and colouring.
