Age Concern (Hounslow) - Ethnic Minority Project:

Capacity building for ethnic minority groups providing services for older people in the Borough. Includes access to services, and fundraising / partnership projects.

Angolan Community Association: Advice, information and casework for the Angolan community and refugees and asylum seekers from other African communities. Translation of documents and interpretation for service users. Work placements and volunteering opportunities. Visits for prisoners or detainees. French, Portuguese, Lingala. Access to interpreters.

British Arabs Resource Centre (BARC): Advice, support, information and advocacy for the Arab speaking communities. Advice on benefits, housing, immigration. Cultural Diversity: A Guide for Health Professionals (Australia) - provides information on the cultural and health issues for ethnic communities.

Cultural, spiritual and religious beliefs - Handbook produced by South Devon Healthcare NHS Trust

Emergency Multilingual Phrasebook - produced and updated by the British Red Cross Society with advice and funding from the Department of Health and endorsed by the British Association for Emergency Medicine (BAEM). It covers the most common medical questions and terms to help first contact staff communicate with patients who do not speak English and make an initial assessment while an interpreter is contacted. It is translated into 36 languages: Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Bosnian-Bosanski, Chinese, Czech, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Kurdish, Lingala, Macedonian, Pashto, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tamil, Turkish, Ukranian, Urdu, Vietnamese, Welsh 

Ethnomed (USA) - has patient education resources on cancer, cough/cold, diabetes, fever, rickets, nappy rash, tuberculosis, vomiting and diarrhoea in Amharic, Cambodian, Chinese, Khmer, Korean, Oromiffa, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Tigrean, Tigrinya and Vietnamese

Ethnic Alcohol Counselling in Hounslow (EACH):  Services for people with alcohol and mental health problems in the minority and other communities, offering information, counselling, structured day-care and home visiting as well as complimentary therapies such as shiatsu, reiki and acupuncture to help rehabilitation.

Ethnic Health and Education Development (EHAED):

1)Information and advice on health issues including HIV/AIDS, Children and Adults Diseases (e.g autism, ADHD, arthritis, asthma). 2) Education and advice on the dangers of drugs including traditional drugs such as Khat and provide information on counselling and rehabilitation services provides. 3) Provide mentoring and career guidance services to ethnic/refugee youths and adults (mature program entrants) and numeracy classes for refugee youths. 4) Research on refugee issues and promoting society intergration and cultural awareness.Contact: PO Box 252, Hounslow, Middlesex,TW3 1ZS. Family Support Project (Hounslow Children's Fund): To provide family support (outreach and centre based) to Black and Ethnic Minority families with children 5-13. Also offers art therapy and parenting groups. A project funded by the Hounslow Children's Fund.

TASHA Foundation - CHOICES Carers Support Service: The Choices Carers Support Project provides a free and confidential one to one support service for carers of individuals affected by mental health difficulties from the African and Caribbean community. Hounslow Translation & Interpretation Services: Offer a wide range of cost effective, quality translation & interpretation services in many languages to enable you to communicate effectively with ethnic minority communities. Services include multi-lingual large type; translation advice; professional typesetting and design facilities; Braille; training; and voiceovers.
